ATDps: November 2020 Virtual Member Event

Amplifying Community & Culture

EVENT DESCRIPTION

Microaggressions and micro-inequities in professional environments are a regular part of the lives of many people from under-represented communities. When promoting cultural awareness and diversity and inclusion initiatives, these behaviors need to be identified, discussed, and resolved. Join ATDps as Natalie Mazzie leads a workshop to demonstrate the impact of these behaviors by role-playing real-life examples. You will challenge preconceived notions, learn to recognize unconscious bias, then develop tools and skills to identify it in your own professional setting, allowing you to create impactful and focused trainings.

“Un hombre solo tiene derecho de mirar a otro hacia abajo cuando tiene que ayudarlo a levantarse — Gabriel García Márquez

English translation: A man must only have the right to look down upon another when he has to help them up.

Definitions:

Micro-inequity is a theory regarding ways in which individuals are either singled out, overlooked, ignored, or otherwise discounted based on an unchangeable characteristic such as race or gender.

A microaggression is a statement, action, or incident regarded as an instance of indirect, subtle, or unintentional discrimination against members of a marginalized group such as a racial or ethnic minority.

Speaker Bio:
