CPTD Certification

The Certified Professional in Talent Development (CPTD) is a professional certification for TD professionals with at least five years of experience. It is broad and measures a professional’s knowledge and skill application across the breadth of talent development capabilities.

Successful CPTDs report that the process of studying for and getting their CPTD designation was a tremendous growth opportunity, allowed them to both learn and give back to the profession, and made a positive impact on their careers.

For our chapter, we strive to build awareness and support of CPTD certification. We have organized study groups using flexible, accessible meeting formats.

Contact us for more information.

What Topics are Covered?

The CPTD covers a subset of the knowledge and skills from the Talent Development Capability Model, focusing on skills application and decision-making for more experienced professionals.

Talent Development Capability Model

Certified Professional in Talent Development (CPTD) candidates are tested on content covering 22 capabilities from the Talent Development Capability Model. Familiarize yourself with the model and download this detailed test content outline to see what is covered on the exam.

Who is It For?

All CPTD candidates must have at least five years of related work experience and should have deep knowledge and experience applying the principles for enhancing employee talent development. A CPTD understands and can affect the value and impact talent development strategies and solutions bring to the success of an organization.

For more information about the CPTD credential, email us at CPTDcertification@td.org.

Puget Sound Chapter Programs have been pre-approved by the ATD Certification Institute for continuing education credits towards professional development hours for recertification of the Certified Professional in Talent Development (CPTD) and Associate Professional in Talent Development (APTD) credentials.

    • Pre-approved providers may calculate the number of hours based on the above formula at .5 per 30 minutes of instruction or request verification by submitting a timed agenda to recertification@td.org.
    • The program content must be related to talent development as defined by the ATD Capability Model. See www.td.org/capability-model for details.
    • Approval and credits are awarded based on the educational time spent on talent development-related activities at the rate of one point per physical hour.
    • Meals, breaks, networking, and non-talent-development-related activities will not be counted toward educational time.
    • Attendees will be responsible for obtaining proof of attendance and reporting the appropriate hours earned for programs where attendance is not taken at each session (eg: conferences).
