Position Description:

The City of Seattle is looking for a Training Manager who understands the impact that their work can have on an organization and has the skills and experience to lead the creation and delivery of:

  • Citywide Leadership Development and Executive Development programs
  • Consistent citywide performance management, including the integration of a new Learning Management System

The Training Manager also has the opportunity to evaluate and enhance current citywide training and development classes, both in content and delivery. This position reports to the Director of Staffing and Development in the Personnel Department.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Develop, implement, deliver and measure Citywide leadership development program
  • Partner within the organization to establish a consistent Citywide performance management system
  • Take part in the evaluation, selection and implementation of a new Learning Management System
  • Manage performance and deliverables for a team of four staff members
  • Manage the Training and Development budget
  • Manage vendor and consultant contracts
  • Primary training-related communicator/influencer to Mayor’s staff, City Council, Cabinet, Human Resource leaders and departmental training staff
Qualifications:

Experience: Five years of increasing levels of experience as a trainer or classroom instructor of leadership development and soft-skills content, utilizing adult learning principals and advanced facilitation skills. Knowledge of employee training and development functions, including curriculum development and strategic planning. Two years of experience managing training staff and programs.

Education/Experience Equivalency: A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent levels of training, certification and experience will be evaluated on an individual basis for comparability.

Desired Qualifications

  • External leadership development content vendors and/or coaching certifications
  • Experience implementing a talent management and/or learning management system

  • Interpersonal Skills – the ability to interact effectively with others to establish and maintain smooth working relationships
