Agile Best Practices: How to Radically Accelerate the Pace of Getting Things Done!

WIKISPEED entered a $10 Million competition to produce road legal 100+ mpg cars. They built the impossible in three months. Joe Justice  leads WIKISPEED, a team of 150 volunteers in 15 countries, and will demonstrate how the 100 MPG road car was made possible through modular design, iterative development, and Agile project management. Joe will talk about Agile practices applied to enormously speed up processes for designing, building, testing and delivering innovative solutions. Joe takes a deep dive on exactly how Agile from software projects is applied to many different industries, from physical engineering and manufacturing to software. This ground breaking methodology expands the agile process, with the presentation providing tools and take-aways for engineers to executives to consultants, in all industries, looking to improve processes.

This agile management approach is the project-focused creative retooling of Lean manufacturing methods adopted by software companies returning to profitability after the dot.com bust of 1999.  Agile methods are now spreading beyond software into other project-oriented industries.  WIKISPEED uses Agile to realize big idea solutions in response to real problems while using the fewest natural resources, economic resources and overhead. Joe will use the example of the design and development of WIKISPEED's revolutionary 100 mpg, gasoline powered, four-seat car (target price of $17,995).

PRESENTER:

Joe Justice is a Seattle based agile consultant and CEO of WIKISPEED.  WIKISPEED is a think-tank and rapid prototyping R&D company run as a non-profit for world good. WIKISPEED uses the Agile management approach, which is the project focused creative retooling of Lean manufacturing methods adopted by software companies returning to profitability after the dot.com bust of 1999.  Agile methods are now spreading beyond software into other project-oriented industries.  WIKISPEED uses Agile to realize big idea solutions in response to real problems while using the fewest natural resources, economic resources and overhead.  At WIKISPEED, Joe is also the leadership behind the SGT01, a practical result of the implementation of WIKISPEED’s mission, a disruptive technology car encouraging the automotive industry to make technology leaps, rather than evolutionary improvements of legacy
or even defunct technology.  The SGT01 competed in the 2010 Progressive Insurance Automotive X Prize for 100-mile-per-gallon efficiency at Michigan International Speedway and was invited to occupy coveted floor space between Ford and Chevrolet at the 2011 Detroit North American Auto Show.  Discovery Channel Canada visited the Shoreline WIKISPEED shop July of 2011 to film the car and team.  Joe currently leads his team in manufacturing cars for sale to the general public, consults on business Agility with SolutionsIQ (http://www.solutionsiq.com/), and is a nominated TEDx speaker.
