Here is a link to a good article from the Sunday New York Times that weighs the pros and cons of government-funded customized training.  The reality, as I see it, is that as long as unemployment remains high, and the skills gap looms, such training programs are essential.  The question is how can we do a better job as a society to help people acquire the skills they need to earn good wages for their family?
