Today’s competitive edge is about processes. And chances are that only about 10% of your processes add value. The other 90% is waste.

There – deep beneath the waste of your processes – is where your treasure can be found.

Phil’s axiom: Whenever you manage resources – costs go up; when you manage workflow – costs go down – always! If you are a senior or mid-level manager, an HR or continuous improvement professional who wants to discover buried treasure, you need to hear Phil Kirby at this very special ISPI event.

Phil Kirby is a Lean profit expert who founded his performance improvement company, Organization Thoughtware® International Inc., over 20 years ago. He’s written two books. His incredible, hands-on experience with an impressive list of blue-chip customers mesmerizes audiences worldwide. His passionate, provocative and practical ideas make sense…and money. His books include Thoughtware® Change the Thinking & the Organization Will Change Itself and The Future: You Can't Get There From Here.

The International Society for Performance Improvement is a voluntary organization of professionals dedicated to the development of Human Performance Technology”(HPT); i.e. the systematic approach to improving productivity and competence based on a set of recognized methods, procedures, and problem-solving strategies.

We are happy to announce that Patrick Riley, CEO and Co-Founder of Modern Survey, will be hosting a free webinar this December around the topic of cloud computing and the future of HR which we would be glad to let you make available to your members. Modern Survey will be hosting the webinar and paying for the service, all you'd need to do is to make it available to your members either by posting the details on your website or communicating them via email so they can sign up. The content is entirely education based and is not in any way a sales presentation or demo for Modern Survey.

I've included some details about the presentation topic and the presenter below. Please let me know if you are interested in making this content available to your members.

In addition to co-founding Modern Survey and serving as the company's Chief Executive Officer, Patrick has spent nearly two decades in the field of employee measurement. His expertise has been tapped by media organizations such as Talent Management Magazine, the Star Tribune and National Public Radio's "Marketplace."

    Topic:

Will Cloud Computing Rain on Your Talent Parade?

    Description:

From recruitment and hiring to performance management and customer feedback, HR technology and talent management are in for some big changes. Cloud computing and social networking are reshaping the way we interact with information as well as each other. While there are risks for organizations that embrace these new technologies, the bigger risk just may be getting caught looking while your competitors pass you by. In this insightful presentation, you'll learn how the world of HR is changing and how you can make emerging technologies work for your organization's people strategy.

    How to Register:

    Webinar Date: December 15, 2011

    The Learning & Development Book
By Tricia Emerson & Mary Stewart

Learn the art of enabling people to truly change their behavior, moving themselves and their organizations toward the right future.
Everyone thinks they know everything about training. Right? We’ve all gone to school, been trained on the job, and maybe endured the occasional corporate seminar. But if you’re a professional in this field, you know that’s familiarity, not expertise. Instructional design and implementation are not as easy as they look. That's where The Learning & Development Book comes in. It answers:
    • Why should learning be more like playing?
    • Is the culture of your organization working against you?
    • Should you measure the effects of your training program?
    • Have you ever thought that learning begins when training ends?

Check out what ASTD Members are saying about The Learning & Development Book.

Recently your President-Elect, Darren Nerland and I had the opportunity to attend a national Chapter leadership event in DC with over 300 other Chapter leaders.  The challenges and sense of urgency about where we, as a learning profession, must go and hence how our national body (ASTD) intends to lead us was palpable.  ASTD is undergoing change: look for emphasis on a customer-focused model of services and alignment around an overall theme of Communities of Practice.  According to Tony Bingham, ASTD President, more details are forthcoming about ASTD’s Communities of Practice in the near future – it is a significant organizational change for ASTD.  To stay tuned on these developments I urge all those non-national members to take advantage of the Power of 2 program at a discounted rate.  Remember to always use our CHIP # CH8020 when making any ASTD purchases.  Click here to learn more.

This year's National ASTD ALC (ASTD Leadership Conference) once again featured a pre-conference workshop on "Congressional Conversations," where ASTD chapter leaders across the country go to Capitol Hill in Washington, DC to meet our federal lawmakers and staff to discuss WLP-related legislation.

Interest in public policy is exploding.  This year 32 chapter leaders signed up for the one-day event.  This is nearly triple the number from a year ago.  The increase reflects the increasing understanding that WLP leaders must get involved to advocate for better and better-funded training legislation to address our nation's serious current unemployment situation and the even greater threat of the skills gap.

Read a summary of the event from the National ASTD public policy council here.

If you want to make a difference in your profession and on behalf of your fellow citizens, then consider getting actively involved in ASTDps's public resources efforts.  Contact me for more information at governmentaffairs@astdps.org.
