President's Message | |||||||||||
Welcome to 2017! There is no time like the present to be a Talent Development professional in the Puget Sound Region. I’m amazed at the growth in our region. The Puget Sound Business Journal reported that King County was Washington States leader in gross domestic product (GDP) growth with 10.9 billion. The Puget Sound is home to so many types of organizations: high-tech, bio-tech, aerospace, medicine, research, retail, non-for profit organizations, startup organizations and small businesses. One thing these organizations share is that they have people who are ready to develop themselves to realize their career goals and organizational objectives. ATD welcomed over 100 new members in 2016. Our members are new and seasoned professionals who represent the breadth of industries in the region. The need to ensure that great learning happens on-the-job is more important than ever. We have an array of new technologies and information accessible to all, which can make navigating the options a challenge. As we embark on the plan for the year, the board is playing close attention to what we learned from our annual Member Survey and our evaluations from events. We heard that you value training that’s aligned with the ATD competencies. (It’s not surprising that Change Management topped the list this year.) We heard that you valued expert speakers and networking opportunities and a membership that is highly engaged. ATD Puget Sound is a great place to learn and to connect with others. To ensure that we remain a learning organization, we need to stay connected with you so that we can flex as needs change. I invite you to explore the many ways you can engage with the chapter. 1. Attend a Chapter Meetings: Members, please remember to register in advance to attend for free. 2. Sign up for an event. Our first big event for the year is our Allied Partners Event on Feb 1st. Register in early January to take advantage of the early bird registration. 3. Attend one of our six SIGs & GIGs. 4. Volunteer: Volunteering alongside members of this chapter is a great way to build relationships while you build skills. Whether you have a few hours a month, or a few hours to help on an event, there are lots of ways to get involved. Check out the opportunities here. Let the learning begin! Board Updates | |||||||||||
Happy New Year! I am delighted with the success of the research team in 2016. Thanks to the hard work of our volunteers, we now have a survey strategy, as well as reporting software to help us analyze our data and use dashboards to view chapter information at a glance. These successes give the ATDps Board the opportunity to stay connected to your feedback and make more informed decisions to serve your needs! I am also pleased to be passing the Director of Research hat to Sarah Reynolds this year. After a year as Director of Research, I will be stepping into the President Elect role. Sarah is excited to serve on the board and full of new ideas to continue to move our research team forward as she learns from our chapter data. Please join me in welcoming Sarah!
