Taming Abrasive Leaders

ATD Competencies Addressed in Presentation: Facilitating Organizational Change & Improving Human Performance

Boss Whispering is an evidence-based process for employers who are open to finding a solution for technically competent (and valuable) leaders and professionals whose abrasive conduct results in organizational disruption. The Boss Whispering process can dramatically improve the workplace climate, reduce the potential for harassment litigation and coworker attrition, as well as reshape the organization’s culture.

Often promoted for technical competence, abrasive (and often bully) leaders may not have the interpersonal competence and emotional intelligence necessary to create motivating environments to accomplish goals and create satisfying work lives. Threatened by the fear of incompetence, abrasive leaders may rely on harsh behavior, humiliation, over-control, threats, condescension or overreaction to accomplish their objectives.

Based on the research from over four hundred cases as well as thousands of hours of interviews with employees and employers, the Boss Whispering process helps abrasive leaders rein in their aggressive workplace behaviors.

Participants will:

·         Understand the impact of abrasive behavior on employees and the organization.

·         Identify why abrasive leaders display aggressive behaviors.

·         Analyze the “survival dynamic” that motivates abrasive leaders.

·         Examine the intervention process to alter abrasive/bully

             behavior.

Participants will also receive the “Do You Know An Abrasive Leader?” assessment to help diagnose a possible abrasive/bully professional.
